Auction tomorrow
Wednesday I will try something new
I have a special baby wearing piece ready for sale, that I will auction off tomorrow. More info on the piece below! I have never tried this method of selling before, and am a bit nervous, but also excited to see how it works.
The specifics: The auction will start Wednesday at 10:00 am Norwegian summer time. It will close at 12 am on Thursday, same time zone (GMT+2).
Let’s be honest, I am looking for ways to make weaving professionally more economically sustainable for me, but I would also like to avoid raise the general price of my work too much. So this is a test to see if an auction now and then can help.
I also like the idea of not having to wait forever for a spot on the waiting list, which is now two years long (incredible), so an auction is an alternative to that.
I am trying an open auction first, so people don’t have to bid blind, though I might try a silent auction later on. I like openness, but I do know some prefer less stress and pressure through a silent auction.
You can be anonymous, by asking me to place your offer via dm or email (tuva.tovslid@gmail.com).
After the auction closes, I will contact the person with the highest bid within an hour. Important! The cost of postage and VAT/ mva, will come in addition, so please be aware of this!
About the piece:
It is named Nå er det tid for eventyr / Time for an adventure, and is woven on a warp of hand dyed cotton (named Varm stein / Warm Stone). The weft is also hand dyed, with a mix of fibers. The main fiber is bourette silk, and it has some organic cotton, cottohemp and cottolinen mixed in. The fringes are decorated with a lot of handspun wool and silk. It is 4,5m long pluss fringes.
The inspiration for this piece is the Mumin universe, as I have great respect for Tove Jansson and have enjoyed her Mumin world, drawings, stories, tv-shows, everything. Her combination of simple everyday life and truths, and wild imagination really moves me. I love her simple style too, and her dedication to living as an artist. And so I have brought some of her artwork into the wrap, in the style and spirit of patch work: we use what we have and make it beautiful.
The piece is woven with the colors of an earthy rainbow, a reflection on how the combination of contrasts, rain and sunshine, bright and dark, affects us stronger than when everything is flat.
